Course Information:  HED 302S-3  Driver Task Analysis

Course Description: 
An introduction to the task of the driver within the highway transportation system (HTS) with emphasis on the risk perception and management and the decision-making process. A content based driver and traffic education course. Prerequisite: valid driver's license.  An online course.

Course Description:
Introduces the principles and fundamentals of injury prevention and safety. Concerns topics such as school safety, farm safety, consumer safety, home safety, fire prevention, child safety, traffic safety, occupational safety, disaster preparedness, and recreation safety.   An online course.

Course Information:HD442S-5  DEVELOPING VEHICLE OPERATIONAL SKILLS:
                               Driver Education Laboratory Experiences

Course Description:
Learning activities will focus on preparing the prospective driver educator to conduct activities which develop vehicle operational skills for a novice driver. This course is designed to prepare students to become driver education teachers.  Prospective teachers are provided with simulation, range, and on-road teaching experiences with beginning drivers. Prerequisite: 302s.  This is taught as a distance learning, off-campus course in conjunction with a Master teacher.

Course Information:  HD443S-3 DEVELOPING CLASSROOM SKILLS:
                                 Driver Education Classroom Experiences

Course Description:
Learning activities will focus on preparing the prospective driver education teachers with appropriate classroom teaching skills with application to classroom  organization, maintaining a learning environment, developing instructional modules, and the conduct of learning experiences.  The students will also be able to apply the administrative policies and procedures necessary to conduct a successful driver education program. Prerequisite: 302s.  This is taught as a combination online and distance learning, off-campus course in conjunction with a Master teacher.

  • To register for these courses as a Web based, ILP or distance learning class go to SIUConnected, Division of Continuing Education, Southern Illinois University.  This Web site provides you with all of the information you need to apply, be admitted to SIUC, get enroll, and pay your bill.
     

  • Depending on the semester the distance learning courses can be either ILP (individualize learning program) courses or Online, Wed Based courses.  You will need to check on either area to find the courses.
     

  • You need to check out the getting started section on SIUConnected.  Depending upon your status, you can register as an undergraduate student or graduate student.  They show you how to register for either ILP or as online courses.
